My name is Douglas, and I have been a resident of Connecticut for over 20 years. I am a registered voter writing in support of Bill SB509, “AAC Address Verification Reforms for Registrants.”
This law needs to change because it unfairly penalizes individuals for circumstances beyond their control. Letters are sent out without tracking numbers or any form of traceability, making it impossible to confirm whether they were delivered or received in a timely manner. As a result, individuals face serious consequences, including felony charges and probation violations, for missing deadlines they had no way of knowing existed. The current law does not account for human error or logistical issues, placing undue hardship on individuals trying to comply with their requirements.
I strongly urge you to vote in favor of SB509 to ensure a fairer and more just system. Thank you for your time and consideration.
